VoxImplant Instant Messaging and Web SDK upgrade

Full Featured Instant Messaging

IM

Our first release of instant messaging functionality offered limited number of functions for 1-to-1 communication, we’ve been working on instant messaging upgrade that enables group messaging, messaging history, contact list control and other capabilities for full featured IM system. IM/presence should be explicitly enabled in VoxImplant application settings before it’s available.

We are working on the tutorial explaining how to use new functionality and will update our simple messenger application on GitHub in the near future. Other features for IM we have in the roadmap: search in history, checking presence from VoxEngine scenarios, sending messages from VoxEngine scenarios and via HTTP API.

New Instant Messaging functionality is only available in WebRTC mode

Web SDK improvements

VoxImplant Web SDK now supports Temasys WebRTC plugin for IE/Safari. We are working on ORTC support in Edge, but a lot of companies still use IE/Safari and want to have access to VoxImplant functionality in these browsers.

Video calls support without access to local webcam is now possible, just set videoSupport to true and videoConstraints to false in config during the SDK initialization:

  1. VoxImplant.getInstance().init({
  2. micRequired: true,
  3. videoSupport: true,
  4. videoConstraints: false
  5. });

Now you can make/receive video calls, but your camera won’t be used, if you want to stream your video you can use Client.setVideoSettings or Call.setVideoSettings depending on the app logic.

VoxImplant Instant Messaging and Presence

IMVoxImplant helps app developers build better real-time communication apps faster and for our teamc v real-time communication includes number of different things. We’ve stared with audio, then we’ve added video calls and now it’s time to let our developers use instant messaging and presence – two very important features of UC stack. We also ready to take care of rosters/contact lists – VoxImplant developers can now integrate full featured messenger functionality into their apps in minutes. When we’ve been working on this update we tried to imagine different services our developers could build using this capabilities (for b2b and b2c), so in addition to personal roster (every app user can create it by himself like in Skype and other messengers) we created application roster – it includes all app users and can be rather useful for b2b apps (something similar to Slack or Lync).

New VoxImplant features in 2015

Vox SantaWe introduced a lot of new features in 2014, but we have even more planned for 2015. We are planning a big update of mobile SDKs that will support p2p audio and video calls and will be 100% WebRTC-compatible. At some point we decided that we wouldn’t implement API for SMS/MMS services, but we started working on UC features like presence and instant messaging for IP-to-IP communication, we are already testing them and expect that this functionality will become available for all VoxImplant developers soon. Next HTTP API update will let developers create and edit Queues and Skills for ACD subsystem remotely – building contact center using VoxImplant is easier than with any other platform on the market.

P.S. VoxImplant already offers audio conferences, but only narrowband mode is currently supported, the next upgrade will enable HD audio support and we will definitely work on video conferencing at some point. Stay tuned!
